BULK TRASH ITEM PICK UP

HOW TO HAVE BULK TRASH ITEMS PICKED UP

Every Wednesday (unless it is a WM holiday), Waste Management handles the Town of Fortville’s trash service. On the last Wednesday of each month (unless a WM holiday), Waste Management can dispose of bulk or heavy trash unsuitable for your regular service. Common bulky, large, or heavy items include:

  • Bed Frames
  • Cabinets
  • Christmas trees
  • Mattress & Box Springs
  • Sofa & Furniture Items

Preparation guidelines for large or bulky item pickup vary by area. Some general guidelines include:

  • Items covered in fabric (mattresses, box springs, sofas, etc.) must be wrapped in plastic.
  • Items holding water (dishwashers, water heaters, toilets, etc.) must be drained or the liquid solidified.
  • Items containing freon (refrigerators, freezers, etc.) must be removed by a certified individual. Some locations may collect items still containing freon for an additional cost.
  • Long items (poles, playground equipment, etc.) must be cut into four-foot sections.

If you have bulk trash items to be picked up before or after the last Wednesday of the month, you can schedule a bulky pickup by logging in to your My WM profile and using the Bulk Item Pickup link from the My Services page.

Occasionally items get placed on the curb that WM Drivers cannot accept. When this occurs, WM Drivers will tag the item and provide additional information as to why the item was not acceptable.  Sometimes the tags get blown away by the wind, so you may want to follow up with one of WM’s agents through Live Chat or phone during normal business hours.
